Late one evening, I stumbled upon a distressing sight—a dog, injured and lying in a street gutter, its eyes reflecting a deep-seated fear. He appeared immobilized, likely due to being struck by a car.
Without delay, we rushed him to a nearby veterinary clinic called “In Safe Hands” on Novy Cheryomushki Street, where he was warmly received with compassion and care.
Despite his condition, the dog displayed a hearty appetite, quickly eating when offered food, which highlighted his resilience and determination to survive.
A veterinary examination soon revealed the severity of his condition. The dog, whom we named Eric, suffered from a fractured spine, severely impacting his ability to walk.
Eric weighed 50 kg, adding a layer of complexity to his recovery process. In the clinic, we also encountered an elderly gentleman battling kidney failure and several tumors, both silently enduring profound suffering.
Our team committed to caring for Eric and the gentleman, approaching each day with empathy and caution, ever mindful of their pain. Eric began to find solace in his new surroundings, particularly enjoying the morning sunlight, which reminisced of better times for him.
Eric’s journey to recovery was challenging, involving numerous injections and constant monitoring. Though progress was slow, a hopeful sign emerged when his hind legs started showing signs of recovery, sparking hope amidst the adversity.
The future remains uncertain, but knowing we have given Eric a chance at recovery brings comfort. With ongoing care and optimism, we aim for a future where Eric can live without pain, embodying the resilience and hope that have marked his journey so far.
