A heroic Great Pyrenees dog named Casper bravely defended his flock from a coyote attack, proving his dedication as a livestock guardian. This courageous incident took place in early November in Decatur, Dekalb County, Georgia, at John Weirville’s home. Weirville, who operates Ewe Can Do It Naturally, uses sheep to help manage vegetation in an eco-friendly manner.
During a quiet night, while Weirville was asleep, Casper and another dog named Daisy were on alert, watching over the sheep. Weirville was awakened by the sound of coyotes outside. When he looked outside, Daisy was vigilantly observing as the sheep huddled near a fence, and Casper was preparing to confront the approaching coyotes.

“We could see the coyotes circling this area,” Weirville explained. “When I arrived, Casper had already sprung into action.” In a daring half-hour long skirmish, Casper managed to kill eight coyotes and chased the remaining ones away, ensuring the sheep remained unharmed. Unfortunately, Casper did not escape unscathed.
Concerned for Casper, Weirville, his family, and neighbors searched for the missing pup. They found clues including pieces of his tail and a blood trail, fearing the worst. To their amazement, Casper reappeared two days later, resting in the chicken coop. Although severely injured, Casper’s first interaction with Weirville upon his return was a silent plea for care, despite his appearance.

Casper has spent the past month recovering at Lifeline Animal Project, a non-profit animal rescue organization. Initially, his condition was so dire that survival seemed uncertain. However, with multiple surgeries and dedicated care, Casper is on the mend. The veterinary team is generously providing their services as Casper continues to heal. Weirville, elated at Casper’s progress, recently visited him and expressed immense gratitude for his recovery. “I can’t describe my happiness at seeing him,” Weirville said, relieved that Casper is showing signs of improvement and hopeful for his full recovery.
The TV station explored expert opinions on coyote behavior, learning that such large groups are unusual. Footage shared in their report highlights the extraordinary efforts of LifeLine Animal Project in aiding Casper’s recovery.
