In a heartwarming rescue story from Southern California, a resident recently contacted Logan’s Legacy dog rescue about three abandoned puppies spotted in a neighborhood. Upon receiving the call, Suzette Hall, who founded Logan’s Legacy, mobilized her dedicated team of friends to assist, despite being unable to respond herself immediately.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found the puppies exactly as described, huddled closely on the sidewalk with their backs pressed against each other. These loyal siblings seemed to be waiting patiently for their family to return. As Suzette Hall told The Dodo, “They just sat on the corner and waited. They didn’t move because they were waiting for their family to come back.”

Local residents explained to the rescuers that the dogs had been abandoned by their family near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles. After their family drove away, the frightened puppies ran into the park, narrowly escaping oncoming traffic. “They just ran inside the park and huddled together. So many cars almost hit them,” Hall recalled.

The puppies waited for days in vain for their family’s return until the rescue team finally intervened. Initially spotted stationed on the sidewalk, the rising morning temperatures eventually forced them to seek shelter under a parked car, all the while remaining tightly curled together. As Hall mentioned, “It was hot that day, and there was a car parked in one of the spots. They went under the car, but they stayed all curled up together.”

Typically, Hall and her team would use humane traps to rescue stray dogs, but with this group, a gentler approach sufficed. Offering food by hand, the rescuers were able to coax the puppies to them. The only female in the group was the first to trust them, allowing the team to place her in the van while her two brothers followed suit.

Once secured in the van, the rescuers noticed the dire condition of these puppies. “They were covered in ticks. They were so matted, and they each had about 40 ticks on them or more,” Hall reported. Despite their condition, the puppies seemed relieved to be together and were taken home by one of the rescuers, remaining closely bonded.

The next step was to address their hygiene and health. After shaving their matted fur and removing the ticks, the puppies began to feel dramatically better. However, the greatest comfort of all was being able to cuddle up together in a safe and warm environment.

Hall saw something special in these siblings. Unlike many stray dogs that band together out of necessity, these puppies shared a genuine connection. Named Polly, Damien, and Barkley, the trio is now in foster care, recovering from their ordeal. Hall and her team are committed to finding a home where all three can be adopted together. “It would be amazing if they could all be adopted together,” Hall expressed, noting, “They’re so sweet.”
