Tom McPhee, the Executive Director of the World Animal Awareness Society (WA2S) and the driving force behind the American Strays series, recently joined forces with Michigan Humane Society Officers.

Together, they recorded the discovery of dogs tragically used as bait for fight training. The cameras reveal the dire and inhumane conditions these dogs live in, providing a glimpse into their world.

Bait dogs often bear the scars of their suffering, including broken bones, deep untreated wounds, and signs of severe neglect like tied lips and malnutrition.

“We respond to dog fights throughout the year,” explains Jenny Jackson, an officer with the Michigan Humane Society. She notes that many of those involved in these cruel practices are merely children.

“Youngsters are taking pit bulls, tying them up in deserted areas, and engaging them in park fights with whatever dogs they can seize,” Jenny elaborates.

The dogs rarely receive the medical attention they need and often lack access to essentials like food, water, and shelter, leading to many being abandoned.
