A heartwarming story is unfolding in Texas, where a street rat turned shelter dog named Cheech has captured the hearts of many. At just two years old, Cheech was found and brought to a local shelter, the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue. Contrary to expectations that he might be timid or scared in his new surroundings, Cheech charmed everyone with his playful demeanor.
Shortly after arriving, Cheech exhibited a quirky facial expression that some shelter staff initially mistook for a sign of unhappiness. However, he quickly dispelled any doubts by flashing an adorable, cheeky smile that won over everyone he met.

Leah Sipe, the shelter’s director, shared her experience saying, “I went into the kennel to take a look at him and called over the other volunteers. They thought I was exaggerating when I said he was growling, but I think they almost fainted when they saw his grin. He’s as sweet as they come.”
To showcase Cheech’s charming smile, Sipe posted a picture of him on the shelter’s Facebook page. The response was overwhelming, with the post being shared by over 7,000 people and sparking interest from more than 50 potential adopters.

The shelter staff were delighted by the outpour of adoption requests for Cheech. After reviewing numerous applications, they found a perfect match—a family who recently lost a beloved dog to cancer. Their remaining dog, Dusty, was in need of a new friend during this challenging time.
Upon meeting Cheech, it was clear that he and Dusty would make a wonderful pair. Cheech has found his forever home, and those who know him couldn’t be happier about this joyous union.

Meanwhile, the City of Waller Animal Shelter and Rescue is preparing for its official public opening on November 12th. Housed in a refurbished old jail, the shelter is looking forward to welcoming many potential adopters, thanks in part to Cheech and his lovable smile.
