Earlier this year, the Friends of Marshall Animal Shelter (FMAS) in Marshall, Texas, embarked on a rewarding journey with a tiny, pink puppy in distress.
Duncan, the stray pup, arrived at the shelter suffering from severe mange, which covered his sensitive skin with painful sores and scabs.
Volunteers at FMAS quickly realized Duncan needed immediate care to relieve his discomfort and help him recover.

They found a loving and experienced foster family to take him in and devised a meticulous treatment plan, which included daily therapeutic baths.
The bathing routine served a dual purpose: it was essential for healing Duncan’s skin, and it also became an opportunity for his foster family to shower him with love and encouragement.
They reassured him of his value and reminded him that relief and happiness were on the horizon.

Just one week into this devoted care, the improvement was astonishing. Duncan’s once battered skin began healing, transitioning from painful to soothingly smooth.
His natural markings started to reveal themselves, delighting everyone involved in his journey.
FMAS encapsulated the transformative experience on Facebook, noting the profound impact of a little medical treatment combined with affection: “A little medicine and a loving foster go a long way.”

The dedicated care continued, and soon Duncan’s condition improved so significantly that he was ready to find a permanent home.
The shelter staff, thrilled by his progress, described him as a charming mix with potentially some Dalmatian traits, thanks to his striking black spots on a backdrop of soft white fur.

Duncan’s path to adoption took some time, but in November, his patience was rewarded with a loving family. Thriving in his new environment, Duncan has completely recovered from mange and is relishing life as a vibrant, happy dog.
Although the team at FMAS misses Duncan’s endearing presence, they are overjoyed to know he is finally living the life he was always meant to have.
