A German Shepherd was spotted aimlessly roaming the streets of Detroit, holding onto her favorite stuffed animal.
Now, thanks to the combined efforts of local organizations and concerned residents, the dog is safe and on her way to recovery.

Residents in the area noticed the dog, affectionately named “Nicholas” despite being female, and learned that she had become homeless after her owners passed away.
As word spread about her plight, several local groups rallied together to rescue her, including It Is Pawzable Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue.

“It’s heartwarming to see how the community came together to help,” said Katrina Weaver, owner of It Is Pawzable, in an interview with FOX 2.
On May 3rd, Home No Kill Rescue announced they had successfully captured the dog and brought her into their care.
Given the mix-up with her name, they renamed her “Nicky.” The rescue group shared their excitement on Facebook, writing, “From this point on, only positive things await Nicky for life!”

However, Nicky’s journey isn’t without its challenges. She was diagnosed with heartworm, which will require four weeks of treatment.
Thankfully, she is adjusting well to her medications and leash walks. Once she has fully recovered, the rescue will begin looking for the perfect forever home for her.
Nicky is in safe hands now, and her stuffed toy is still by her side. We’re relieved to see this sweet dog recovering and hope she soon finds a loving family to call her own.
