HelpAWS, an animal rescue group based in Saint Lucia, conducts an annual event focused on spaying and neutering dogs. This initiative plays a crucial role in controlling the canine population on the island.
Despite the demanding nature of the work, the veterinarians and staff find great satisfaction in dedicating their efforts to assist dogs in need. This commitment was reinforced when they decided to extend their hours to care for a group of puppies that desperately required attention.
On the third day of the clinic in Saint Lucia, the team was busy as usual, eagerly anticipating the end of their workday. However, their plans changed when something caught their eye.
Charlene Penney Troubetzkoy, the founder and CEO of HelpAWS, recounted, “We noticed a cardboard box beside the trash can. We paused to check it out, expecting what we might find but hoping it wasn’t true.”
Inside the box were five tiny, adorable puppies. Despite Charlene’s extensive experience with dogs in distressing situations, each new encounter still managed to tug at her heartstrings. Seeing the tired, frightened eyes of the puppies was always a poignant moment.
Acting quickly, the rescue team transported the puppies to the shelter, ensuring they each received a thorough medical examination. Even though they were in good hands, the puppies took a little time to adjust to their new, safe surroundings. Initially cautious, they soon realized they were in a place where they would be cared for and loved.
After settling in and completing their medical checks, the little group began to thrive in their temporary home at the shelter. While the siblings enjoyed spending time with each other, they were also ready to embark on new journeys to their forever homes. As each puppy left, the staff were reminded of the profound reward in their work.
