On September 22, the animal rescue group GWARP was contacted about a troubling situation concerning an elderly dog in dire need of help. The dog had been deprived of food and water despite suffering from a severe illness.
GWARP, which has years of experience in rescuing animals, acknowledged that they had never encountered such a dire case before. The dog was suspected of having osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, and had faced years of neglect. Chained with only a short leash, the dog barely survived on leftovers and waste, leading to extreme malnutrition and the development of cancer. To make matters worse, the dog endured repeated beatings from its drunken owner, according to the individual who reported the situation.
The dog’s movement was severely restricted by a short chain, limiting it to an area of only two feet. When GWARP attempted to rescue the dog, the owner refused to give it up, claiming ownership. This led the rescue team to seek assistance from local authorities. A GWARP member stated, “When we approached the police, it was as if the dog was crying out for help.”
With the intervention of authorities, GWARP was able to obtain the necessary documentation, leading the owner to reluctantly surrender the dog, on the condition that no charges would be pressed against him.
Realizing the dog’s urgent need for medical attention, GWARP prioritized immediate care, which included detailed examinations, blood tests, and a necessary amputation with biopsy. “It’s a long journey ahead,” commented the rescue team.
X-rays confirmed the presence of osteosarcoma, but fortunately, the cancer had not yet spread to the lungs. This gave the dog, newly named Jordan, a fighting chance for recovery despite the fast-growing tumor that was causing skin damage.
In an effort to aid Jordan’s recovery, he was given a comforting bath to help wash away the past. However, due to limitations in Azerbaijan, further medical treatment needed to be conducted in Turkey. Plans were promptly made for Jordan’s travel.
Upon arrival in Istanbul, Jordan underwent thorough assessments, including full-body X-rays under sedation, in preparation for crucial surgery. The surgery went smoothly, successfully removing the cancerous limb without any issues.
Just three days after surgery, Jordan showed remarkable resilience and adaptability to his new situation. His appetite returned, and he began to enjoy his meals again with enthusiasm.
The GWARP team encourages everyone to wish Jordan a speedy recovery and holds high hopes for his future. “We love you, Jordan,” they expressed, feeling grateful for the progress he has made and optimistic about what lies ahead.
