When Aria Keilbach came across a distressed dog chained in his owner’s yard, the sight left her deeply saddened. The underfed dog, desperately searching the ground for any scraps of food, tugged at her heart.
As a co-founder of Boonie Babies, a rescue and rehabilitation center, Keilbach knew she had to act. She reported the situation to animal control, and following their investigation, the dog’s owners agreed to surrender him. The rescuers then brought him to a shelter where he was given the name Zero. Freed from neglect, Zero began to harbor hopes of finding a loving home.

A few days later, Keilbach went to the shelter, intending to give treats to dogs on the euthanasia list. When she stopped by Zero’s kennel, he instantly recognized her voice and approached. Initially, he seemed apprehensive, but soon his tail started to wag, responding to Keilbach’s affection. When she took him out for a walk, the joy in Zero’s eyes was evident, and his playful antics expressed his gratitude.
Mindful that Zero was at risk of being euthanized, Keilbach made the heartfelt decision to bring him to her rescue facility. “He looked at me with such adoration and hope I couldn’t leave him that day any more than I could leave him starving on a chain,” Keilbach shared in a TikTok post.

Once at the rescue, Zero enjoyed a hearty meal prepared by Keilbach and then visited the vet for a thorough check-up. In addition to being underweight, the veterinarian diagnosed him with ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis, diseases transmitted by ticks. Nevertheless, under Keilbach’s loving care, Zero is showing improvement each day.
Known for being affectionate, Zero thrives on snuggles and kisses from his rescuer. Although he has a long recovery ahead, his progress is steady. Once fully rehabilitated, Zero will begin the search for a permanent, loving family.
There’s no doubt that this charming dog will win over the hearts of a family ready to provide him with endless love and care.
